The US Congress has denied the FBI’s director’s plea to get Apple and Google to un-encrypt their new smartphones. So that makes the score, regular people, 1 – FBI, 324351…But a win is a win.
FBI head honcho, James Comey said last week that Apple and Google’s auto encryption services on iOS and Android “threatens to lead all of us to a very dark place” and that if the companies don’t remove the encryption “Congress might have to force this on companies.”
Congress’ response? “LOOOOOOL NOPE”
California Republican Rep. Darrell Issa, who holds “considerable power” regarding these issues said this week:
“To FBI Director Comey and the Admin on criticisms of legitimate businesses using encryption: you reap what you sow. The FBI and Justice Department must be more accountable—tough sell for them to now ask the American people for more surveillance power.”
Rep. Zoe Lofgren has also said that Comey’s proposal would have “zero chance of passing.” There you have it Jamesey, stay off my phone. My nudes are for me and all the people I “accidentally” text them to, NOT THE FBI.
